1. Candidate reviewed for school fit.
2. Candidates who make it through step 1 will be invited to submit an integrated unit plan outline with one fully developed lesson plan. Unit must integrate at least two subjects (such as science and social studies).
3. Candidates who make it through step 2 will be invited for an in-person interview which includes teaching a mini-lesson.
4. Successful candidates will receive an "intent to hire" letter.
Teacher Job Description (K, 1-2, 3-4*, 5-6*, Special Education, PE, Music/Band)
The Expedition School offers an exceptional project based learning approach with a STEM focused environment that seeks to develop high level analytical and critical thinking skills in all of its students. This focus is fully integrated within the core academic disciplines of mathematics, science, social sciences, language arts, and technology. This engaging and rigorous approach to educating students is implemented by a collaborative team of teachers at each multi-age grade level. TES operates on a modified year-round schedule.
A highly qualified candidate will:

- Utilize effective classroom management techniques in a multi-age classroom
- Attend weekly staff development and/or meetings during designated school hours

- Be willing to have an “open-door” classroom where parents, prospective parents, and staff members can observe regularly
- Participate in the school’s after-school tutoring program one hour per week.
*Teachers of the 3-4, and 5-6 classrooms will specialize in either language-arts/writing/social studies or Math/science/writing.
**Teachers of the 7-8 multi-age classes must have specialization in either language-arts and/or social studies OR math and/or science indicated on their teaching certificate. Grade 7-8 positions open for the 2015 school year.
Special Education
In addition to the qualities listed above, be a part of creating our special education program from the ground up! The Special Education teacher will facilitate the IEP learning for special needs students. Our school would like to utilize the inclusion model as much as appropriate, so push-in scheduling will be utilized along with pull-out teaching of small groups. The Special Education teacher will also keep IEPs up to date, complete IEP paperwork, and participate in IEP meetings. Please review the recruitment and hiring process below for how to apply. Physical Education (position closed)
We are looking for a creative physical education teacher who is interested in building the program from the ground up. We will be open to a variety of approaches from a "traditional" physical education approach to an approach that incorporates less traditional physical activity such as dance, martial arts, yoga, etc. This teacher will be working with a wide age-range of students from K-8, and will need to be able to plan a variety of developmentally appropriate lessons. A qualified candidate will also be able to incorporate the school's social-emotional learning focus into the physical education as well. The creative ability to tie physical activities into grade-level projects is a plus. Thank you for your interest!
Music/Band
We are looking for a creative music teacher who is interested in building the program from the ground up. This versatile teacher would be working with students in grades K-8. Band instruments will begin at grade 5. A qualified candidate will have the flexibility to create a developmentally appropriate program that incorporates music basics for the younger students, to band concerts with older students. We are open to a variety of approaches from a "traditional" music or band class, to an approach that incorporates less traditional offerings such as guitar, etc. The creative ability to tie music in to grade-level projects is a plus.
